Terms and conditions

Please read the below terms and conditions before signing up to take part in Step Up for St John's.

Introductory terms

  1. By registering and participating in Step Up for St John’s (The Challenge), you are agreeing to these terms and conditions. 
  2. The fundraiser is being run by St John’s Hospice. St John’s Hospice is a registered charity in England and Wales (235822). Registered address 60 Grove End Road, London, NW8 9NH. 
  3. The challenge is running between 1 and 30 June 2026 (Activity Period). The fundraising period is between 22 April and 15 July 2026.

Eligibility to enter  

  1. Step Up for St John’s is open to UK residents only.
  2. Participants under 18 may only take part in the challenge with the consent and supervision of a guardian. The guardian must complete the registration on their behalf and is responsible for creating and managing the participant’s fundraising page and receiving donations. The guardian also accepts full liability and responsibility for all of the below-mentioned terms and conditions on behalf of any participants under 18.
  3. In entering Step Up for St John’s, you confirm that you are eligible to do so. 
  4. Each individual may register to participate only once. 
  5. The fundraiser is free to enter. 
  6. By participating in the fundraiser, you agree to act respectfully and in a way that reflects positively on the charity and fundraiser. You agree not to behave in any way that could bring either into disrepute. 

 

Fundraising conduct  

  1. Participants fundraising in connection with Step Up for St John’s must ensure all fundraising is conducted lawfully and ethically.
  2. Participants must not undertake any illegal, misleading, or unsafe fundraising activities.
  3. Participants must make it clear that funds are being raised “in aid of St John’s Hospice” and must not imply they represent the charity unless authorised. 

Fundraising commitment  

  1. By registering for Step Up for St John’s, you agree to make genuine efforts to raise funds via your official fundraising page on or by contacting the charity for alternative methods.
  2. If you are no longer able to take part, inform the organisers as soon as possible. Any funds already raised will be treated as donations. 
  3. You agree to send any donations to the charity promptly and not to hold onto funds unnecessarily. Donations can be made via your official fundraising page or by contacting the charity for alternative methods.
  4. By fundraising, you will be eligible for the incentives listed below. 

 

Incentives  

  1. Only participants who have signed up for Step Up for St John’s via the registration form are eligible for incentives. 
  2. No other fundraising for St John’s Hospice is eligible for this incentive. 
  3. To be eligible to receive a St John’s Hospice T-shirt and welcome pack, you must complete registration by 14 June 2026. 
  4. To be eligible to receive a Step Up for St John’s medal, you must raise at least £100 before 15 July 2026. 
  5. If you fundraise offline, you must ensure that St John’s Hospice receives your donation before the above-mentioned deadlines to be eligible.  
  6. Money received after 15 July 2026 will be treated as a donation but will not count towards incentive eligibility. 
  7. All incentive merchandise will be sent latest within one month after the deadline date for eligibility has passed.
  8. St John’s Hospice will not accept responsibility if contact details provided are incomplete or inaccurate. 
  9. All incentive merchandise is non-exchangeable, non-transferable, and no cash alternatives will be offered. 
  10. St John’s Hospice reserves the right to substitute incentive merchandise of equal or higher value if circumstances beyond our control make it necessary to do so. 
  11. The decision of St John’s Hospice regarding any aspect of the fundraising incentives is final and binding, and no correspondence will be entered into about it. 

 

Data protection and publicity  

  1. By registering and taking part in the fundraiser, you consent to any information you provide being used by St John’s Hospice for the purposes of administering the fundraiser. 
  2. By registering and taking part in the fundraiser, you consent to photographs and video footage that you share with us, including on St John’s Hospice Strava group, to be used by the organisers for promotional purposes, including on websites, social media, printed materials and other media. These may also be shared with third-party media partners. If you do not wish your shared photos or videos to be used for promotional purposes, please notify us by contacting fundraising@hje.org.uk
  3. More information about how we use and protect personal data at St John’s Hospice can be found in our Privacy Policy. 
  4. All personal data will be processed in accordance with the Data Protection Act 2018 and UK GDPR. 

 

Limitation of Liability  

  1. St John’s Hospice and any of its staff or volunteers do not accept any liability for any damage, loss, injury or disappointment suffered by any entrants because of either participating in the challenge or receiving merchandise. 
  2. By taking part in the challenge, you confirm that you are in good physical health and that you have no medical conditions that would make participation unsafe. It is each participant’s responsibility to ensure they are adequately prepared, trained and fit to take part in the challenge. If you have a medical condition or you are unsure of your physical ability to take part in the challenge, you must seek medical advice. 
  3. You take part in the challenge at your own risk. St John’s Hospice and any of its staff or volunteers are not responsible for any illness, injury, loss or damage arising from participation in this challenge. 
  4. Participants are responsible for ensuring their own safety when taking part in the challenge, particularly when exercising in public spaces. 

 

General  

  1. St John’s Hospice reserves the right to cancel Step Up for St John’s or amend these terms and conditions at any time, without prior notice. 
  2. Step Up for St John’s and these terms and conditions will be governed by English law, and any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
